Coach House Conversion

Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

Complete Summer 2011

This Coachouse, stable & hayloft has essentially remained unchanged since its construction in the 1800's. Situated within a courtyard to the rear of an imposing Victorian merchant's villa, the building retains many historic features.

In a desire to preserve the fabric of the building, whilst bringing it into practical use; the client commissioned Northlight Architecture to create a sympathetic conversion of the Coachouse for residential use.

Externally, the building remains virtually unchanged however the internal spaces have been transformed to provide two bedroom accommodation with associated living space.

Insulation levels have been provided to modern standards and wood pellet space heating is proposed, reducing the overall CO2 emitted from the building.

Planning and Listed Building consent was granted in 2007 and building work completed in 2011.
